Paul J. Hoover

Senior Pastor

Pastor Paul J. Hoover grew up at Souls Harbor.  He served as youth pastor at Souls Harbor during his college years, and at Heritage Baptist Church in Corpus Christi, Texas (2012-2014).  Paul and his wife moved back to Milwaukee in May 2014.  He co-pastored with his father, and was then installed as the senior pastor on September 25, 2016.

On a Sunday night, one month from Paul’s 5th birthday, Dr. Roger Voegtlin was preaching at Souls Harbor.  It was during this service that God’s conviction was so great, he walked forward during the invitation.  That night he prayed to receive Jesus Christ as his Savior.  Two years later, he received assurance of his salvation.  While still in elementary school there was a period of time where he doubted his salvation, but he settled those doubts though reading the Bible and taking the Lord at His Word.

Paul is passionate about working with God’s people, and reaching the lost with the Gospel.  His life verse is Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”

Bryan Standerwick

Youth Pastor

Pastor Bryan and his wife Ashley came on staff in August of 2019.  Bryan oversees the 7th-12th grade students at Souls Harbor, and also coaches basketball at the Academy of Excellence.  Bryan and Ashley lead “The Way” City Youth Fellowships (after school youth group) that meets at 3:30 every Wednesday afternoon during the school year.  They also lead a teen prayer group on Thursday nights at 7, and teach the Teen Sunday school class.  Once a month they lead a fun activity for the teens on Sunday night.

In high school, Bryan got involved with the wrong things.  In an effort to get his life on track, he joined the U.S. Army at age 18.  Five years later, things began to unravel in his life.  He was on the brink of divorce when his wife, Ashley, found new hope in Jesus Christ.

Bryan felt the people at church were a bunch of hypocrites, and he told her they would give up on her like they had given up on him.  But she said, “The church people may do that, but they are not the ones who saved me, Christ is.”

By the grace of God, Ashley continued to witness to her husband.  On a snowy December night, at one of the lowest points in his life, Bryan realized that he needed the filling grace of God.  In his despair, he called upon the Lord Jesus Christ to save him.  God picked Bryan up out of the mud and washed him white as snow.

Bryan and Ashley are trophies of God’s saving grace.  They have a walk with God, and they both live out their Christian testimonies in the church and our community.  They have 3 children (Aleigha, Jayleigh and Alexander), and one (a boy) on the way.
